Kajang Bridge

Kajang Bridge

Kajang (Ship), is a traditional boat commonly use to transport people and logistics. The ship consist of three main parts: the front (kajang tarik) mainly use for store commodity to sell or for scouting; the middle (kajang tetap) function as an area for resting; the rear (karang tunjang) uses as service area.
These sections are translated into the design elements of a bridge. The front (kajang tarik) is used for an agricultural commodity garden, the middle (kajang tetap) is designed as a resting area with ergonomic seating, and the rear section (karang tunjang) serves as a service area providing access to the platform.
Since the rise of water transport in the 17th century during the Palembang Sultanate, the Kajang ship symbolized economic strength. In the dominance of land transport era, Kajang ship became extinct. This project incorporates the Kajang into our design to symbolize cultural change in transportation.
