The WOWRead initiative, an extension of the Wonders of Weaving project, weaves together various aspects of design practice—drawing, site surveys, interviews, coordination, and mental effort—into a comprehensive narrative that captures the essence of architecture beyond mere buildings.

WOWRead is dedicated to supporting and promoting the documentation of architectural endeavors. We believe that exceptional design should be shared for the greater good, fostering a culture of openness and encouragement within the design community. This belief motivates us to independently drive this mission, aiming to make a positive impact by educating and engaging the public on architecture and design.

By capturing the intricate methods behind structural creations, WOWRead showcases the collective energy and creativity in every project. Our goal is to transform architecture into a more appreciated and understood field, helping people see the value and complexity in each design.

“Tropicality: Houses by Andra Matin” is the first major work of the WOWRead initiative. Published by Thames and Hudson, a renowned publisher in architecture and design, this book is a testament to our commitment to sharing exceptional works with the world.

Isandra Matin Ahmad, one of Indonesia’s most celebrated architects, has made significant contributions to the field, including winning the prestigious Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 2022 for the Banyuwangi Airport in East Java, Indonesia. Despite his numerous achievements and the completion of hundreds of buildings of various typologies since establishing his firm in 2003, there had been no major publication discussing his works—until now.

The accompanying exhibition complements Andra Matin’s book by adding another layer of understanding to his designs. It focuses on the journey and the process behind realizing his architectural visions. Visitors to the exhibition can appreciate the non-linear, interlacing, complex, and communal process involved in design. While concepts might originate from the vision of an individual or a small group, the realization of a building is a shared endeavor. The exhibition underscores the joint efforts and the intricate stages that contribute to the final architectural works.
